Baby Blue Shuffle in D Major (Gilmour/1968)

Instrumental which later will be the basis for Narrow Way (part 1). It was played as is at a BBC session.  David recorded what corresponds to parts two and three of this track in his apartment on a Revox 4-track between late August and early September 1968. The recording, slower than the version finally recorded (and with a lot of interference from the radios), was pressed in about 30 copies by his brother, Peter. These EMI-issued 7" acetates were distributed to Gilmour's university friends.

Theme (Beat Version) (Waters, Wright, Gilmour, Mason/1969)
Instrumental written by the band for the film « More » , but not included on the soundtrack. We only learned of this track officially in a directory of titles recorded by the band.  It eventually appeared on the « Pink Floyd Early Years … » box set.

Roger Waters:

« We did 16 tracks in five sessions (but there is only) 13 only on disc) »

« Interview w/. Roger Waters », The Amazing Pudding.

Cymbaline (Movie Version) (Waters/1969)

There is slightly difference with the studio version since Gilmour sings with a head voice, and the third verse has altered lyrics. The ending is also different. This version is played live during the Paris sequence

«The path you tread is narrow

And the drop is sheer and very high

The ravens all are watching

From a vantage point nearby

Apprehension creeping

Like a tube train up your spine

Standing by with a book in his hand

He’s waiting for tonight»

Roger Waters:

« (Barbet Schroeder) didn't want a soundtrack to put under the film. All he wanted was, literally, for music to come out of the car radio if the character turned it on. He wanted music that related exactly what was happening in the film, rather than just a soundtrack .».

Seabirds (Waters/1969)

A song written by Waters for the film « More”, but not included on the soundtrack. Strangely enough, this track is found in an old, unobtainable score book, but its lyrics differ from those of the feature film. To put the song in context, it appears in situ (i.e., broadcast over the apartment stereo) when the two heroes meet in the kitchen of an apartment on the outskirts of a party. This scene reflects the director's preference for diegetic music.

Excerpt from the 1976 songbook featuring the only occurrence of this title

Mighty waves come crashing down,

The spray is lashing high into the eagle's eye

Shrieking as it cuts the devil wind,

is calling sailors to the deep

But I can hear the sound of seabirds in my ear

Surf is high an' the sea is awash

An' a haze of candy floss, glitter and beads

Rock that we sat on and watched in the sun

That was hot to touch

And the sea was emerald green

I can hear the sound of seabirds in my ear

And I can see you smile

Surf comes rushing up the beach

Now will it reach the castle wall and will it fall

Catfish dappled silver flashing

Dogfish puffing bubbles in my deep

Paris' Bar (uncredited/1969)

This previously unreleased track appears on tapes dating back to the recording of the soundtrack. On these tapes, alongside different versions of well-known songs, two previously unreleased tracks (including this one) appear.

The other great unreleased track along with Seabirds could be this title who the existence is stated only by the session-sheet. However, one wonders if this isn't just a pre-release of Green is the Colour, given that this title was used by the Floyd to designate this track in the Royal Festival Hall program on April 14, 1969.

Sleeping aka Sleep (Waters, Wright, Gilmour, Mason/1969)

Instrumental played during « The Man & the Journey » concerts. It's often thought of as a version of QuickSilver. The band may have added similar parts here and there over the years, but this is clearly a different song. The first version was played on April 14th 1969.

Closing instrumental for the track Nightmare (a version of Cymbaline) based on the main melody of Grantchester Meadows.  The track was enventually re-titled as Labyrinth for the boxset « Early Years »

« More's outtake » aka « Laying down tracks » (Waters/1969)

Instrumental heard inside a BBC documentary broadcast in March 1969 (but recorded in December 1968) devoted to the multi-track recording technique known as « Laying Down Tracks ». An unknown piece of music can be heard, based on the arpeggios used on Cirrus Minor and fragments of Main Theme. It seems the band are working on Song 1, a track recorded on 22 August 1968. This music survived and the video was detected by Romain FOURAY inside of a special French TV show broadcasted in 1974. See this page form more details
