June 2011:
The project of a re-issue of «Animals» is envisaged by Roger. It will be the next bone of contention

«Nick Mason Uncages Memories of Making Animals», AnalogPlanet Website, 21 September 2022

Roger has had in mind that he’d like to do a proper remix of Animals. And that’s interesting, because that was the least technically recorded album we’ve done. I have nothing against where we recorded it, but it might benefit from being relooked at because it’s got some really nice aspects to it

2012. On the eve of the wall tour,
Roger seems always interested by  a mini reunion. Earlier this year he asked Gilmour to take the stage at the Yankee stadium concert on 6 July.

«Waters breaks down «Wall»», New York Post, 10 March 2010

He's got back to me with a « no » within 20 minutes but it's fine. It's ok.

I wasn't upset at all!

«Waters tour marks 30th anniversary of 'The Wall'»,, Associated Press, May 5th 2010.

« It's always asked of you, so we will ask it again - any chance of

another Pink Floyd reunion ? »
David (Gilmour) is completely disinterested in anything like that. After Live 8, I could have probably gone for doing some more stuff, but he's not interested, so it is what it is

«Hardtalk with Stephen Sackur», BBC TV, 17 September 2013

I was wrong (to sue David Gilmour)! Of course I was. Who cares?

2013-2014: Is the war ended ?
On September 2914, the rumor of a new Floyd album is leaked by Polly Samson. Eventually on 10 November 2014: « The Endless river » is out

«David Gilmour: “ There's No Room in My Life for Pink Floyd ”», Rolling Stone, 29 October 2014.

«Some fans were hoping to see Roger play on this new record, maybe on just a song or two. Was that even discussed ? »

Roger was tired of being in a pop group 30years ago.Why on Earth anyone thinks what we do now would have anything remotely to do with him is a mystery to me. He's having his fun. He's had his world tour, which went brilliantly well. And we are getting on with what we do.You'd have thought that after 30 years people might have thought, "Hmmm, maybe we won't mention him every time(...) I think Roger is very used to being the power, the sole power, behind his career. And that's great for him. But I think the thought of him coming back into something that has any form of democracy to it wouldn't be be what he'd be good at. It's been much, much too long. As you said, I was in my forties when Floyd last toured. Let me think, I believe I was in my thirties when Roger left. I'm 68 now. It's over half a lifetime away. We really don't have that much in common anymore. That's now to say that we didn't do some of the greatest stuff that I could imagine in the time we spent together. You know, that was a mere seventeen years. It's been well over that, actually much longer, since he left

«A band is like a marriage, with multiple husbands », Die Welt, Novembre 2014.

To get him (Roger) involved with these particular songs just did not

feel right. Although I personally would have loved it if he had been there. I don’t know what David’s take is on this

« Roger Waters post », Roger Waters Facebook page, 30 September 2014

Some people have been asking Laurie, my wife, about a new album I have coming out in November. Errhh? I don't have an album coming out, they are probably confused. David Gilmour and Nick Mason have an album coming out. It's called Endless River. David and Nick constitute the group Pink Floyd. In on the other hand, am not part of Pink Floyd. I left Pink Floyd in 1985, that's 29 years ago. I had nothing to do with either of the Pink Floyd studio albums, Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell, nor the Pink Floyd tours of 1987 and 1994, and I have nothing to do with Endless River. Phew! This is not rocket science people, get a grip

«Hors les murs», Paris Match, 29 August 2015

« Roger: How did you react to the announcement of the last Pink Floyd

album last year? »
Pink Floyd released a record ?

« Yes, « The Endless River » »
And what is this Endless River? (Laugh) To be honest, I was surprised. But that's not my problem anymore. Pink Floyd's work is there, it stands on its own. And I'm not going to forbid anyone to listen to « The Endless River ». Again, it's none of my business

« David Gilmour could have asked your opinion, couldn't he? »
Why?

« Out of elegance, politeness … »

But I've been out of the business since 1985. I've spent more time out of Pink Floyd than in it

Inevitably, with new news, the questions about a new Live 9 concert with Roger arise again

« David Gilmour », Télérama, 18 November 2014.

At the end of the concert, I had the confirmation that an exceptional musical alchemy still linked us(…) But another certainty gripped me: it was time to turn the page. The emotion of playing with Roger again was only musical

«Burning bridges», Mojo, February 2021.

Maybe Dave doesn’t get how important the symbiosis between us was during the golden years. It was a very, very special thing

One song, Louder Than Words, with lyrics by Polly Samson, addressed the group’s dysfunctionality.

« David Gilmour », Télérama, 18 November 2014.

When Syd had to be removed, Roger Waters was the only one who felt he could write lyrics. He also had a deep desire to run everything. We agreed with most of his preoccupations, his political stance or his stance against showbiz. But, in his eyes, we were only musicians at the service of his vision. Our best songs are still those created in tension, those where we managed to impose our sensitivity.

The Endless River ends with a song called Louder than words: from the incommunicability between us came the strength and singularity of our music.

Roger and David were like a bickering old divorced couple

29 May 2015 Roger Waters and Nick Mason reunited on Thursday at London’s Regent Street Polytechnic, where they founded the
group, to honor Pink Floyd's semicentennial. Along with Juliette Gale, the first wife of Wright they are unveiling a commemorative plaque,

Put it like this, if we’d gone up for Britain’s Got Talent, I don’t think we

would have made it past the audition stage. We weren’t terribly good

« We were effing awful!»

After David Gilmour's show on 24 April 2016 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, David suddenly decides to make some changes to the line-up. Jon Carin leaves Gilmour's tour and joins Roger Waters' tour at the last moment. Rumours indicate that there have been relationship problems between David and the man who has accompanied him on every tour since 1987

« It’s time for a decision», Uncut, June 2024.

« I changed the band around last time for a number of reasons, one of which was it was all too robotic, and some people would have been better off in a Pink Floyd tribute band. So I thought we'd get people who are genuinely creative and give them alittle more space »

«Bassist Guy Pratt on touring with Pink Floyd», Rolling Stone, 16 September 2020

« Midway through that tour, a lot of the band left without explanation, including Jon Carin and Phil Manzanera. What happened?»
Uh … I’d rather not go into that. I don’t want to say the wrong thing. You might have to wait for the book for that, but for a while there I wasn’t in the band either

- On October 6th, Waters, guitarist David Gilmour and drummer Nick Mason announced a message of support on Pink Floyd’s official Facebook page for the Women’s Boat to Gaza, 13 activists sponsored by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition who were intercepted when they attempted to breach the Israeli navy’s blockade of Gaza.

«Roger Waters Talks New Album, Moving Past … », Rolling Stone, 13 October 2016

Two days ago, I emailed them and said, «C’mon, it’s time. They just

emailed me back and said, «Fine by me». We had been sort of talking – «Should we get united on this?»I was really happy that Dave and Nick joined me on this, to be finally  united with them, taking this stance.

«How much input did you have in the new Floyd box set ?»

This had been going on for a couple of years, because of the exhibition that is going to to be at the V&A. It took a certain amount of persuasion to get some of the boys to accept their mortal remains [grins]. I haven’t taken much interest in the box set, except they all came to me a few months ago and said, “What the fuck are we gonna call this shit?” I came up with this “/ation” thing for the discs – “Germin/ation,” “Dramatis/ation.” I love the first one, from 1965-1967, “Cambridge St/ation.”

There is a bonus thing, “Continu/ation” [of BBC sessions and rare soundtrack recordings]. That was not my idea. I suggested “Petrific/ation,” “Masturb/ation,” almost anything else. “Continu/ation” is so lame. But whatever. This has nothing to do with me. It’s not for me. It’s for people who care. If people want it, I’ve got nothing against it. It’s cool

2017: the « Us + them » tour begin

«The Planet Rock interview», Planet Rock, June 2020

« Did Roger ask what you thought of his performance ? »

Not really (laughs). Roger’s never been that keen on hearing my opinion

«Roger Waters: la bannière Pink Floyd est encore très puissante», Paris Match, 3 May 2018

« You left Pink Floyd over thirty years ago. And we always come

back to that glorious past »

I wish it were different. But you have to be realistic. If I only chose the songs I cared about, would I sell as many tickets? No. The Pink Floyd banner is still extremely powerful. Most people don't know what I've done under my own name, they come mainly for nostalgia. I'm fine with that.

- May 2018 begin of Nick Mason Saucerful of secrets show

«The Planet Rock interview», Planet Rock, June 2020

« At what point did you tell David Gilmour and Roger Waters what you

were up to ? »Early on. I have been asked, «Did I need their permission? »

Well no more than they needed mine for them to do out again. David and Roger have both been supportive. David is definitely monitoring it. He’s sent notes to Guy, suggestions about his singing or whatever.

After being scheduled initially on November 2016, some online advertising about a 5.1 mix of « Animals » was leaked on
the net at the end of 2018. The new edition will be postponed for the next two years

I think it comes and goes. And I think it can be exacerbated by some

specific difference of opinion on a re-release and how it should be approached or what should be done

Animals remix is beyond unbelievably good. It has been finished for years

«Nick Mason on the State of Pink Floyd: … »», Rolling Stone, 10 December 2018

It’s a constant irritation, really, that he’s still going back to it. I’m hesitant to get too stuck into this one, just because it’s between the two of them rather  than me. I actually get along with both of them, and I think it’s really disappointing that these rather elderly gentlemen are still at loggerheads

18 April 2019: Roger is guest for the Beacon Theater New york show of NMASOS

«Roger Waters Talks ‘Us + Them’ Film, … », Rolling Stone, 30 September 2019

I was really pleasantly surprised by Saucerful of Secrets. I really

enjoyed it, and obviously I love Nick. He’s a very old friend, and luckily all those bridges have been rebuilt.

We see each other often, and I adore him. The atmosphere that night was wonderful, and I couldn’t have been happier than to be allowed to share the stage and sing one of my songs with that band. Guy Pratt was great singing and playing the guitar. He knows a lot about it all having worked for Gilmour for all those years. And I thought Nick sounded great. And the other guys were really splendid

September 2019. Release of the film « Us + Them ». Roger Roger regrets that the group's official pages do not promote

« Roger Waters statement », Roger Waters Twitter, August 2019

I wish he’d let me advertise this movie on the Pink Floyd website. It’s not allowed. He censored it, and I’m not allowed to announce anything on it.

I bet all Pink Floyd fans are sorry to hear that. They all hoped that we could kiss and make up and everything would be wonderful in a cozy, wonderful world. Well, it wouldn’t be all that cozy or wonderful for me,  because I left Pink Floyd in 1985 for a reason. The reason being that I wanted to get on with my work

… But finally

«Official Pink Floyd statement », Pink Floyd official twitter, 6 September 2020.

A very happy birthday to Roger Waters, who releases his recent Us + Them concert recording in less than a month’s time

13 December 2019 «Later Years»

Jon Carin, who tours with Roger Waters, reacted to the release of the box set by stating that Rick's contribution to the three albums was minimal, and even that the credits given to him were false, as he actually played on most of the tracks. One example given by Jon Carin is the track Marooned from the album "The Division Bell" on which he did all the keyboard parts.

«Jon Carin Facebook page», 10 July 2021

The first 30 seconds of the song is just me alone, playing an ambient piece I wrote for a record I was making at the time that happened to be in the same key, but, of course, didn’t come out - instead ending up on a Pink Floyd record. The sound then continues throughout the whole of Marooned. You can hear it bending and swooping all the way through. I also played the grand piano ( the Fazioli at Metropolis Studios ), B3 and other synths on this song

As if by chance, a few days later the band's official Youtube channel published the demo (although initially not chosen to be included in the box), stating the absence of Jon Carin in the process of writing …

« Marooned Original Demo (Cosmic 13) », Pink Floyd official Youtube page, 28  July 2021

The birth of Marooned from the Pink Floyd sessions of January 1993. Originally known as Cosmic 13, it’s just Rick, David, Nick and Guy jamming direct to a stereo DAT machine at Britannia Row Studios. Posted on 28 July 2021, to mark Rick's birthday

… And The same thing happens with the title Yet another movie ! While Jon Carin made a statement about this track (replying a question from a fan on his Facebook page

«Jon Carin Facebook page», 10 September 2021

Yet Another Movie was started as an instrumental in 1986 and finished

with vocals in 1987. There were no demos. The master we worked on was

the only version. I wrote the intro to the song (starting at 45 seconds), the floaty synth pad part that preceded the song, on an Emulator II. That sound then continues through the entire song. It’s a similar writing style as the one I employed on Marooned on the next record, my sampled National Resolectric guitar doing the spacey intro with the bends, etc., that sets the mood, then weaves through the rest of the song

And … by chance … the demo (absent in the boxset) is posted on the official Youtube page with a introduction by David Gilmour himself who contradicts the statement of the keyboardist without noting him. Jon Carin replies with some tongue-i-cheek maybe …

« Yet another movie (Demo) », Pink Floyd official Youtube page, 24 September 2021

I thought, this week, that we would put up the original demo, written by Pat Leonard and myself, for what was to become ‘Yet Another Movie’ on the ‘A Momentary Lapse of Reason’ album. Pat Leonard and I met up at Astoria in September 1986 a couple of days after I had played on a Bryan Ferry track that he was producing. We had a glass or two of wine and jammed for hours. For some reason that I can no longer remember I had chosen the fretless bass as my instrument of the day. It turned into a beautiful song

«Jon Carin Facebook page», 24 September 2021

Wow, this is incredibly exciting. No one has ever heard this before

including me and the very small team who made the record. With such

a flood of unheard old jam sketches suddenly materializing these days, first Marooned & now what eventually became Yet Another Movie, one could, in theory, release a box set that covers rarities & outtakes from the last several Pink Floyd records. It could also include my demos of Learning To Fly, Colours Of Infinity, Phil Manzanera’s demo of One Slip, and so many more in the can so far unreleased.  This rough jam (it’s not a demo, as there is no song) is a wonderful illustration of how a moment in time can be transformed into a proper song with just the right amount of love & care from the people who were involved

«Jon Carin Facebook page», 21 September 2021

I would think more pressure because it had to prove there was a long term creative justification in having won rights to the name. Certainly more pressure on me in trying to make it Floydier, if that’s a word

19 May 2020, Roger Waters calls out to David in a ost on Twitter estimating he was «banned» of the official Pink Floyd social accounts while the solo work of David’s wife has publicity (as «Theatre for dreamers»)

«Roger Waters statement», Twitter, 19 May 2020

David Gilmour thinks because I left the band in 1985, he is Pink Floyd

and he owns Pink Floyd and I am irrelevant and should keep my mouth shut. This is wrong. We should rise up... or just change the name of th band to Spinal Tap

June 2020, The release of « Animals » is delayed due to deep disagreements between Roger and David

«Nick Mason Uncages Memories of Making Animals», Analog Planet Website, 21 September 2022

It’s certainly taken 10 years, yes, but I don’t know where we’ve really

gotten to with that one. There’s been a disagreement between Roger and David on some aspect of it — and, to be honest, I’m just waiting to see when the dust settles

« David Gilmour and Polly Samson », Rolling Stone, 7 June 2021

Well, a very lovely Animals remix has been done, but someone has tried to force some liner notes on it that I haven’t approved and, um, someone is digging his heels and not allowing it to be released. Because someone wants them, and they got a journalist to write some, and I didn’t approve them. And he’s just getting a bit shirty. You know how he is, poor boy.

«Roger Waters Instagram», 14 June 2020

We spoke in June. We had a big meeting where I came up with a big peace plan that has come to nothing, sadly. I convened a sort of Camp David for the surviving members of Pink Floyd at a hotel at the airport in London, where I proposed all kinds of measures to get past thisawful impasse that we have and the predicament we found ourselves in, and it bore not fruit, I’m sorry to say. One of the things I asked for, I suggested that because whoever the 30 million of you are that subscribe to the web page, you do so because of the body of work the five of us created. In consequence, it seems to me that it would be fair and correct if we should have equal access to you all and share our projects

«Rolling Stone interview with Roger Waters», Rolling Stones WebTV, 16 April 2020

The conversation was just «can we release the remastered vinyl

of Animals without it turning into the third World War ?» I actually suggested going democratic. I said, «Why don’t we just have a vote? There’s only three of us. And then we can decide all those like that». And at least we can just get on. But they wouldn’t have that. They didn’t want it

Finally, Roger Waters publish these Mark Blake liner notes on his web page

« Animals new mix update », Roger Waters Offical website, 31 May 2021

These mixes have languished unreleased because of a dispute over some sleeve notes that [journalist] Mark Blake has written for this new release

Gilmour has vetoed the release of the album unless these liner notes are removed. He does not dispute the veracity of the history described in Mark’s notes,  but he wants that history to remain secret. I am agreeing to the release of the new Animals remix, with the sleeve notes removed. Good work James Guthrie by the way,

and sorry Mark Blake. The final draft of the liner notes was fact checked and agreed as factually correct by me, Nick and Gilmour.

Here they are, enjoy, there’s nothing controversial, just a few simple facts

The gap between the two musicians is widening

« David Gilmour and Polly Samson », Rolling Stone, 7 June 2021

There’s a lot of misinformation. And I’m not keen on constantly responding

to every bit of untruth that I hear about myself and what I’m doing. There are packs of lies and information I’ve allowed to sit out there but my general view is to swallow and … it’ll all come right one day in one way or another

« David Gilmour and Polly Samson », Rolling Stone, 7 June 2021

« I hope you’re able to reach a détente at some point »

Pretty unlikely, I’m afraid.

« Animals new mix update », Roger Waters Offical website, 31 May 2021

As I am banned by Dave Gilmour from posting on Pink Floyd’s Facebook page with its 30,000,000 subscribers, I am posting this announcement here today and in full on rogerwaters.com. What precipitated this note is that there are new James Guthrie Stereo and 5.1 mixes of the Pink Floyd album Animals, 1977. These mixes have languished unreleased because of a dispute over some sleeve notes that Mark Blake has written for this new release. Gilmour has vetoed the release of the album unless these liner notes are removed. He does not dispute the veracity of the history described in Mark’s notes, but he wants that history to remain secret. This is a small part of an ongoing campaign by the Gilmour/Samson camp to claim more credit for Dave on the work he did in Pink Floyd, 1967-1985, than is his due. Yes he was, and is, a jolly good guitarist and singer. But, he has for the last 35 years told a lot of whopping porky pies about who did what in Pink Floyd when I was still in charge. There’s a lot of «we did this» and «we did that», and «I did this» and «I did that»

« Roger Waters to Write Very Progressive Memoirs », Vulture, 2 June 2021

I had a lot of time on my hands over the last year, and I thought,

Bugger me, if I don’t do it now, I’ll probably never do it, so I decided to do

It. For anyone with a faint heart, I suggest you sit down, but anyone who likes a good laugh, sit back and fucking howl! I’m going to sit back and howl along with you.

March 2022:

Pink Floyd releases the single Hey, Hey rise up as support for the Ukraine. By the way, the font used for the cover

is very close to the one used in « The Wall » era and most notably for the When the tigers broke free single

I listened to it, yes. I don't agree with their approach. There's a fire,

people are dying and this is pouring oil on the fire. All this waving of blue and yellow flags is not doing anyone any good. The only important thing about Ukraine at the moment is to stop the ongoing war. (...) In the West, we see nothing but this evil tyrant Vladimir Putin - which he is. But the West is not a wonderful camp full of love for freedom and democracy

And just for the record, I adored Rick and LOVED his playing. But sorry,

that's me on much of Division Bell. The fact that the credits were completely wrong on top of having slaved away on it for a year is quite insulting to me, despite asking many times for them to be corrected over the past 30 years. And it would be very insulting to you if you were in my shoes. I hope this helps to clarify things

February 2023

On February 4, Roger gave an interview to « Berliner Zeitung » during which he took personal positions, in particular indicating that the war in Ukraine was primarily motivated by economic reasons for the benefit of arms dealers and that this war was "provoked" by NATO. This interview has been translated into English and published on his official website.
The bassist also returns on the release of the single for Ukraine released in March 2022
Following this statement, Polly Samson publishes a scathing response on twitter

« The truth will set us free», Berliner Zeitung, 4 February 2023

« How do you like the fact that Pink Floyd have recorded a new piece

for the first time in 30 years – with the Ukrainian musician Andrij Chlywnjuk? »

I have seen the video and I am not surprised, but I find it really, really sad. It’s so alien to me, this action is so lacking in humanity. It encourages the continuation of the war. Pink Floyd is a name I used to be associated with. That was a huge time in my life, a very big deal. To associate that name now with something like this… proxy war makes me sad. I mean, they haven’t made the point of demanding, “Stop the war, stop the slaughter, bring our leaders together to talk!” It’s just this content-less waving of the blue and yellow flag. I wrote in one of my letters to the Ukrainian teenager Alina: I will not raise a flag in this conflict, not a Ukrainian flag, not a Russian flag, not a US flag.
