DAVID GILMOUR « Welcome Pink Floyd », France-Soir, 23 February 1977.


Interviewer: «Do you have any musical training?»

David Gilmour: «No. No one in the band. Nobody in the band. When I had a guitar in my hand, I learned how to make it work»


Interviewer: «How old ?»

David Gilmour: «Fifteen. The others and I met ten years ago.».


Interviewer: «And what would you have done if you hadn't been a musician?»

David Gilmour: «I never thought about anything else. I went to school, I went to grammar school, I didn't think about any career, and then I left school and I played. That was it »


Interviewer: «Is Pink Floyd take drugs?»

David Gilmour: «Drugs are in the world. Penicillin exists. There's aspirin. There are drugs too».


Interviewer: «Do you have a favourite sport?»

David Gilmour: «Rugby, I was in my school team. Football, sometimes we play matches with the tour participants. Squash ».


Interviewer: «Do you like French cuisine? »

David Gilmour : «Ah yes! I like everything. In fact, I'm a good cook»


Interviewer:  «Do you like animals as much in life as in your records? »

David Gilmour: «I have cats and dogs at home in the country (David lives 50 kilometres from London, in a large house with his wife Ginger, whom he married three years ago, and their ten-month-old daughter Alice. The whole family joins him in Paris»


Interviewer: «What films do you like?»

David Gilmour: «The good ones»


Interviewer: «What do you mean?»

David Gilmour: «Good ones in any genre, good westerns, good detective stories. Even, in a pinch, a good musical»


Interviewer: «Do you get stage fright before you go on stage?»

David Gilmour: «Not often»


Interviewer: «Do you believe in the extraterrestrials that have sometimes inspired your music? (Sic) »

David Gilmour: «Yes. It's unthinkable not to believe in something else, somewhere, that will come one day, that's already here around us... unthinkable»


Interviewer: «What do you think of today's youth?»

David Gilmour: «They're all right. They're like us ten years ago. And you'll see, in ten years' time, they'll be as good as us».
