Pierre Meyer talked the recording in the Belgian show « Quelle époque! » in 2012. An extract was shown in 2015 during the special « Les Pink Floyd en Belgique sur la RTBF » (Belgian TV show). 26 March 1968 BBC TV Studios, London, England Tony Palmer shot three colour takes of Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun. From these three reels he edited a complete version. The film was captured on 28 March 1968 for its original inclusion in a proto-Monty Python episode entitled « Twice a Fortnight ». It was finally broadcast for the first time on « All My Loving » TV show on 11 April 1968 as infra-red version. On 3 November 1968, the film was rebroadcast in Black & White, without the film's effects. Then, finally, in colour, on 18 May 1969.
There are two versions of this clip: the first is the edited version of the film and the second includes images of a dancer. This clip was also broadcast on German TV on 3 November 1968. The show was rebroadcast on 17 April 1973. Tony Palmer re-used this film in his « All you need is love » project and then in a « Sounds of the Sixties » program in 1991. An extract of the infra-red version can be found in the 1991 « Culture Rock » special on M6. Finally, other extracts were broadcast during a special German programme in 1993 (in a shortened version). Available on the « Pink Floyd - The early years 1965-1972 » box set.
Tony Palmer(Director):
«The facts are as follows: the so-called 'redwash' sequence of 'Set The Controls' was shot by me in a studio at the BBC, I think in Lime Grove. It was taped as if 'live' on video, with a few small cuts made later. It was recorded with the red wash (i.e. it was not 'put on' later) in attempt to recreate the light-show effect that the Pink Floyd achieved on stage at that time. When they saw the film, the group all approved, particularly that at the climax of the sequence, the Floyd's music cuts directly into Bartok ».

Available on the « Pink Floyd - The early years 1965-1972 » box set.
