CONCERT DATE | 10 September 1967 Golden Circle, Stockholm, Sweden

The existence of a complete tape of a Floyd concert, Barrett period, has long made aficionados of the band fantasize. This tape was found and copied in 1974 but remained in the hands of a few rare collectors.

Interviewer: «Have you heard the tape of the 67 Stockholm show that exists ?»

Bernard White (Famous Pink Floyd collector): « Yes, I was the one who found that. I found the man who recorded that and the other one from í67, Copenhagen, in 1974, long time ago, both of them from the same source. Thirty years ago».

It was not until the organisation of an event with the participation of the author of the recording in 2011 that the 50-minute recording was broadcast.

«It's a lucky coincidence that the Gyllene Cirkelns new owners 2 Grabbar &Kök has chosen to recreate the original interior decorations of the restaurant from the 60's. We are trying to recreate everything as it was that night when Pink Floyd played. I've managed to get mannequins that we are going to dress with exact copies of the outfits that the band wore and the mannequins are being sculpted by students at Konstfack (Fine Arts School) so that they will look like the band members»

CONCERT DATE | 9 November 1967 Fillmore Auditorium, Los Angeles, USA

The soundman of Grateful Dead, Oswald "Bear" Stanley, has recorded every gig of the Fillmore West for many years. There is no reason the Floyd was not taped too. This recording was confirmed by Peter Jenner himself.

Interviewer: «There was a rumour that all concerts in Fillmore were taped ...»

Peter Jenner: «They were indeed. But perhaps that started later, because the Floyd were there quite early. Weren't the archives of the Fillmore called Bear Tapes or     something ... Owsley 'Bear' Stanley, the Grateful Dead's soundman, allegedly had over 13000 tapes of the San Francisco scene, from 1965 and later, most of the Dead but he did record other bands as well if he happened to handle the soundboard. We checked the Grateful Dead touring dates of that period and theoretically it is possible that Bear might have taped Pink Floyd. According to David Parker in Random Precision Bill Graham routinely had all Fillmore gigs taped and a Pink Floyd soundboard recording of their     April 1970 Fillmore show does exist »

«In order to try to find a replacement -saleswise — for the now defunct Beatles, EMI Switzerland mounted an unusual promotion operation for Pink Floyd. Taking advantage of the fact that the group were performing in Montreux on November 21, EMI invited sales girls and representatives from Swiss press and radio to the concert.

After the concert EMI gave away 2000 copies of the “Handle With Care” LP, which consists of tracks of bands such as the James Gang, BB King, Freedom and others. Explaining the event EMI’s head of promotion Teddy Meir said: “Although the Beatles are still our best selling pop group, we have to find a replacement for them in the not too distant future and Deep Purple and Pink Floyd seem to be the obvious choice for that»

SOUNDTRACK | 1974 « Pink Floyd - Live At Pompeii Quad Mix »

In 1974, associate producer Phil Borack (whose company April Fools Films handled distribution of the film in the United States) and director Adrian Maben visited Los Angeles for the purpose of finding someone to produce a quadraphonic mix for the film from the original multi-tracks. Dan Wallin, who received an Oscar nomination four years earlier for his work on Woodstock, was appointed for this task. The mix was done in discrete quad, the multi-tracks were mixed to mag at A&M record studios, then the mags were taken over to Todd-AO where the final mix was done.

The quad mix was featured in select screenings of the film. Pink Floyd was never involved with the quad mix

This mix was released since

CONCERT DATE | June 1974 Palais des Sports de la Porte de Versailles, Paris, France

For many years now, rumours have been rife that Europe 1 had recorded one of the dates of the French tour in June 1974. This rumour appears to be well-founded, given the policy of systematically recording concerts as part of the "musicorama" programme between 1965 and 1983 (more than 20,000 concerts can be found in Europe 1's archives). Europe 1 was also the main sponsor of this tour. Finally, the general press often reported that the concert was broadcast in 1975 (see press clipping below). However, after a search I found nothing in the radio archives.

A few years ago, talking with an Italian collector, The recording, who would be an audience or a soundboard had the reputation to have an excellent sound (even despite the DJ speeches over the recording).

Nick on the set for the shooting

 FILM | 1986 « Life could be a dream »

A 26 minute film produced by Nick Mason and directed by Vic Priggs and Roger Iamon for Rothmans Tobacco Company. It features Nick Mason as a child and as an adult talking about his passion for racing cars. We can see him during his participation in the 1984 Budweiser GT Canadian endurance race. The most interesting part remains the 8mm footage that shows unreleased footage of the band in Belgium (February 18, 1968) riding around in their van to play some burlesque sequences (Waters pretending to stab Nick with a guitar); the 1971 Crystal Palace concert with Dave on drums and Rick on bass during the soundcheck (with some shots of the audience and the inflatable octopus) and shots of Pompeii on set. The later pictures were released at the end of 2022 in the trader community.

Interviewer: «Any chance of a release for Life Could Be A Dream, a film you made in 1986 featuring unused footage from Pompeii ? »

Nick Mason: « There’s nothing unseen in it. It was a 25-minute doc made about me, primarily with Rothmans money, because it was about motor racing! I got to drive. three of the endurance championship races with the Rothmans team, so it was real big-boy motor racing.»
